Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Empty
PostSubject: Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus?   Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Icon_minitime1Sun Dec 16, 2018 5:21 pm

With thousands of young duelists applying, only a select few hundred were accepted into the high-end curriculum boasted by Neo Duel Academy. Those left behind silently shuffled away and applied to lesser facilities, such as the militaristic approach of Neo Domino Academy or the.... nonsensical design of Heartland State University.

Those who made the bar were picked up by shuttle buses at the designated pick-up location and transported up the districts to the gates of the academy. As people looked around however, they find that the selection of students seem oddly scattered. They ranged from recognizable local tournament champions to clear and obvious screw-ups. However, they all had one thing in common, they made the cut to enter the academy.

It was amazingly a thirty-minute drive to get from the island's residential district all the way up to the academy and the first thing everybody saw was the towering walls that surrounded the academy and the massive gates in the middle of it all. The shuttle bus did not bother to even slow down a little as the large iron gates parted and allowed them through at just the right timing.

What greeted them was a massive building constructed with incomprehensible investments of money. The high pillars and metallic finish was something like a futuristic temple housing the best minds of the dueling world. Surrounding it were large buildings of different and necessary functions. The wide walkway leading to the entrance had marble statues of famous legendary duel monsters at the sides, leading up to the entrance guarded by platinum statues of life-sized Blue-Eyes White Dragons.

The shuttle bus dropped everyone off by this walkway before speeding away to grab the next handful of students.

"Welcome everyone to Neo Duel Academy." A woman came out to greet them all. She had short brown hair and a thin frame, wearing a velvet business suit and visor with a clipboard under her arm. "I'm Rokushigo Taika. I run the student store and I look forward to seeing you all plenty of times in the future. Your orientation will be handled by a fellow student from a higher level. They will be here shortly, so please save your questions for then. For now, everyone please come and take a campus map and student handbook."

Everyone was eager to start the orientation. Neo Duel Academy had a policy to deny any news media or public coverage on their facilities, so the bulk of the academy is largely a mystery. Until their upperclassman showed up, it seemed everyone had a chance to relax and mingle.

"Uhm, excuse me, I don't think I'm reading this right," a student with bangs covering his eyes spoke up. He held up a campus map and pointed at it gingerly. "According to this, the first-year dormitory is on the other side of campus. And there's only one dormitory for the entire first-year class."

"Yep. Being required to walk that much of a distance to get to classes everyday is expected of first years. It's good exercise and keeps you diligent," Miss Taika stated with a bright smile that caused a bunch of students to jolt in shock. "And dormitories are co-ed. Boys and girls rooms are separated by the left and right sides of the building with a common area in the middle."

"W-Wait, that can't be-!"

"Please save questions for your upperclass student guide," Taika restated with a bright smile.

PostSubject: Re: Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus?   Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Icon_minitime1Sun Dec 16, 2018 6:25 pm

Yuriko still can't believe that she made it this far, scratch that, she couldn't believe that she still passed the Entrance Exam. She was extremely lucky and a bit excited. She couldn't wait for what will happen next, of course, as she looked down at her deck on her lap, she realised something.

Since she's getting an education again in some form, she has to wise up when it comes to duelling. The person that battled her gave her some harsh but truthful words, the next battle she will face won't have that much hand holding then in the entrance exam.

She's going to need a little help without anyone knowing that she's struggling. Maybe her new friend's can help?

But her thoughts came to a halt when she finally arrived...At the Academy.

She looked out the window, gasping in excitement. "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAH!" She randomly yelled in the bus at the Academy, and the statue of the blue eyes white dragon.

"It's the dragon from my deck of dragon cards." Yuriko thought as the bus parked at the walkway of the academy. Yuriko tried to get out first but ended up falling when she tried to get out. "Ow." She groaned before slinking back up and staying in the back of the group of students.

She remained quiet throughout Taika's talk and followed the students to where the handbook and campus map's are, grabbing two for her own.

She then turned to The Boy with Bangs, curious as to how he can even read. "Wait, how does he know that if his bangs are covering his eyes." She thought.

Yuriko...Looked at the boy suspiciously, but kept quiet so she herself doesn't look suspicious to anyone else in the crowd.

She did slightly smile at the revelation that she will be sharing the dorms with the boys.

"Huh, talk about fancy, huh?" Murasaki walked up, giving Yuriko a broad grin as she stepped forward. Automated gates, excessive construction, and everything well-maintained. Clearly, Neo Duel Academy's primary donors and backers were incredibly generous.

"Hey again. Looks like we'll be bumping into each other a lot."

Shiki had been lingering at the back of the crowd, mostly because she had a book on astrology in one hand and had been reading it. A boy's concern revealed that there was quite a distance to walk, but looking at it, she started walking past the others including Murasaki, Yuriko, and the odd boy nonchalantly.

"Hm, it's not too far," she said flipping to her other hand which had the student handbook. "I walked this far to get to the market every day before."

She seemed to have been addressing the whole crowd, or perhaps she was talking out loud? It was hard to tell considering her eyes stared blankly at the pages. She eventually lifted them to face Muraski and Yuriko.

"Oh. You two again," she said plainly. "Hello. And hello to you, too, I suppose."

The latter statement had been addressed at the boy, but she still held the same blank expression.

As the new students started talking amongst themselves, the doors to the main building opened up and a female student stepped out.

"Okay, okay~ Sorry I'm late everyone~" She descended the stairs two at a time, a skip with each step she took. Her hands on her hips, she smiled at the group. "Welcome to Neo Duel Academy! I'm second year Tori Gaidoku, your campus tour guide. Looking forward to a great year with y'all!"

Tori Gaidoku:

"Now, does anyone have any immediate questions about the school?" Tori asked the group.

Yuriko remained quiet from within the crowd, not wanting to drag anymore attention to herself. She's surprised that nobody had noticed her yet from the Entrance Exams, then again everyone else was busy not losing to notice her...That is until she heard Murasaki from nearby. Yuriko turned towards her and smiled.

"Oh hey again Murasaki, we do keep running into each other. Maybe we have a connection or something." Yuriko did a weird hand motion, stopping when Shiki joined the two girls. "Hi Shiki, excited for the tour today?" She asked, but the tour soon began when a girl named Tori appeared to start the campus tour.

But not before wondering if anyone in the crowd would want to ask any questions, which Yuriko did not have, besides a range of silly questions, but nothing that she should tell Tori about.

Otohiko had remained silent for the majority of the bud ride to the campus of the academy. He had managed to secure a spot with the incoming first years, which was good. People from all over who were chasing their dreams of becoming professional duelists. It was quite encouraging to see. They reminded him of Yoru, which made him smile to himself. It would be two years until Yoru could apply to the school, but he was ready to be prepared and help his sister become the top of her class.

He admired the architecture of the academy as they passed through the gates, and waited patiently to be allowed off of the bus.

He stood among his peers and silently watched as they chatted about the school and examined the school map. Everyone seemed eager to get started with classes, though he had to wonder how normal this school would be compared to others. He knew dueling was a strong focus, but he didn't know what it was going to be like other than that.

He cleared his throat when Tori asked her question and spoke up. "Forgive me for speaking so plainly, Gaidoku-san. However, this is a school of duelists, and I'm sure some people have not had the chance to read the map yet to learn of the facilities. So, my question to you is when and where are duels permitted on campus grounds?"

Murasaki grinned at Shiki and Yuriko, but turned to attention as their guide-named guide gave her own introduction.

"Yes, a question from me too! How seamlessly do we integrate coursework with professional dueling circuits, and what resources are available for career development? I'm not just talking about dueling... I'm curious about soft skills, business sense, and general mentorship too."

Shiki was staring at her runes as everyone else asked their questions. She shook them lightly and tossed them in the air. Once no one else was asking, she too raised her hand.

"How much longer before we can eat?" she asked bluntly.

It didn't matter if she had eaten only a little bit before the tour started. Shiki was already looking forward to lunch. That also reminded her:

"And can we cook in dorm rooms?"

PostSubject: Re: Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus?   Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Icon_minitime1Fri Feb 22, 2019 2:28 pm

The red-headed girl listened to Otohiko's query and smiled widely.

"That's a good question! First off, classrooms and similar educational spaces such as the gym are designed and outfitted for dueling. We also have three designated duel domes which you can reserve for official challenges. They even have spectator seats and recording equipment. They are referred to as the Slifer, Ra, and Obelisk domes. The Millenium Library also has designated table spaces in the upper floors for standard casual play. Aside from that...."

Tori spread her arms out with a bright grin.

"Everywhere!" Tori exclaimed. "Pop quiz time. Does anyone notice anything particular about the design of this place?"

The group looked around curiously, noting the duel monster statues and sharp exterior of the building. It was then the boy with bangs let out a gasp and tapped a hand against his palm. "There's a lot of open space."

"Bingo bingo bingo!" Tori cheered. "That's right. The building and architecture is designed to leave plenty of room in public areas with the intention to encourage spontaneous play and practice. Just be mindful of others and enjoy yourselves. This is what the academy is all about! Oh, however there is a strict curfew at 10 in the evening, so don't let the Disciplinary Committee catch you during quiet hours."

She put her hands on her hips and listened to Murasaki's question patiently. She nodded approvingly and crossed her arms.

"Another good question. Every professor here is a former professional with lots of years and experience in the pro-circuit along with official teaching licenses. Classwork and lectures are custom designed by each professor who incorporate what they believe are essential to tackle professional dueling. On top of that, you'll also receive general studies and education, so don't think just being good with a deck will let you cruise by. We also have general electives from accounting to zoology. Personally I enjoyed Professor Hoenheim's Alchemy class. Of course professors are available for help with whatever you're struggling with as well as student counseling. The professor in charge of First-Year dorms is actually very popular, so don't be afraid to come to him or any professor you like for help.

"A lot of our events are known to attract scouts and agents plus internship and coop opportunities come available each semester. However, it gets pretty competitive and nobody will so much as look at you unless you made a name for yourself. As first-year students I would recommend focusing on your studies first then applying for internship opportunities in your second year. You're still not likely to be accepted for an internship, but it's important to get your name out there. All-in-all, the most important part is personal initiative. You gotta play it smart and play it aggressive. That's what the headmaster encourages of all students."

Tori then listened to Shiki's question and she made the brightest grin she put on all day.

"That's the best question of all!" Tori stated excitedly. "The cafeteria, Hungry Burger Hall, will be the the stop of our tour after the main school building behind me and the Duel Dome Slifer as well as where we'll be taking our lunch break. Your student ID which you will receive at your dorm will be your entry pass into the dining hall a limit of twice a day. It's a buffet-styled setup with weekly menu changes to accommodate anyone from predator to vegan. Watch out for the curse of the freshman fifteen though!

"Now as for cooking in the dorms, you're allowed a personal microwave and a minifridge and each dorm comes with an electric water kettle that you will be held responsible for. However, there is a community kitchen on the first floor of the dormitory that's available for use during all hours. The academy is not responsible for anything you put in the community fridge that happens to go missing. By the way, the community kitchen is outfitted with enough equipment and space for a full restaurant staff to work in. Just don't let Professor Ramaseeze catch you putting pineapple on a pizza. They kinda have this thing."

"Anymore questions?" Tori asked brightly one last time.

The student with bangs gingerly raised a hand. "Uhm... Has anyone every told you you look like--"

"OKAY! If there's nothing else, then let's get this tour underway!" Tori exclaimed excitedly, pumping up a fist and about-facing towards the main building. She either couldn't hear the boy's muttering or chose to purposefully ignore it. Either way, nobody in the group decided to pursue the matter.

Entering the main building felt like walking into a chrome-obsessed future. There were high-tech gadgets and expensive-looking equipment everywhere. Even the water fountains looked high-standard. Just as Tori promised, the hallways were widely spaced. The busload-sized group would have no problem walking shoulder-to-shoulder. Through the electronic sliding doors that were left opened, the students can see the classroom which had auditorium-styled seats and desks and in place of a blackboard each classroom had what looked like giant screens and monitors. Each classroom looked pretty uniform, although some seemed to have the professor's personal touch. One had architectural photos and artifacts displayed while another had a whole tree growing inside!

"As I've explained, every professor is an acknowledged professional duelist from around the globe with lots of experience on the field," Tori explained as she guided along the group. "Each course curriculum is custom-designed by the professor with what they consider important to the dueling circuit and they're available for counseling during office hours. Many also run extra-curricular activities. For example, the head of the Synchro Department Professor Tenant is head of of the D-ROTC corps and Professor Wash is in charge of the Japanese culture club."

"First years have mostly the same set of classes in their individual schedules. This is to help you meet and know the people in your year, but afterwards you pick your classes and schedule to meet what you need to graduate. It's a gladiator arena on class enrollment day, so make sure you're prepared!"

Tori stopped and spun around on her heel to face the group with hands on her hips.

"By the way, professors will sometimes award their students with a card for attending what they consider particularly important lectures. Fun fact, Prof. Tenant started this trend his first-year as a teacher here and the rest decided to do the same. It really encourages attendance and they're often pretty good cards anybody can use, so keep that thought in mind."

Tori raised a finger and made a smug grin. "And our school has something of a special rule too," she mentioned in a matter-of-fact tone. "You can challenge your professors to a duel. Even during class."

This made the group of student audibly react and chatter. The prospect of dueling a former professional sounded too juicy to turn down. Although despite all the name drops Tori made, it didn't seem to bring anyone up. Perhaps most of these professors were pros long before their time so they're no longer particularly famous? Regardless, just the fact that they were former pros excited a lot of people.

"Just one thing. Only one student can challenge a professor during class and if you lose you won't be able to challenge any professor for a month," Tori explained. "Also, losing results in a penalty designated by the professor. They can take away your dueling privileges, or make it so you can't leave campus for a month, or even assign you a piece of homework for every card in your graveyard."

This made people a lot less excited.

"But, if you can beat a professor, they'll reward you with a special 'card'," Tori continued. "If you obtain twelve of these cards, you have a chance to apply for instant graduation and a contract with a major dueling agent!"

And once again, many in the group got pumped and excited at the prospect. Some more reserved folks were rubbing their arms or looking at the ground quietly, not entirely meeting the rests' levels of confidence. Tori eyed the former with a devilish eye and grin before turning around and continuing the tour.

The tour led to what looked like a shop space wedge into the school. It had glass cases with visible rare cards displayed, multiple tables, and several PC spots with card catalog sites on the screen. Behind the cashier table were shelves lined with booster boxes and various accessories from card sleeves to binders.

The lady who greeted the group earlier, Taika, was standing behind the cash register with a very business-like demeanor.

"This is the card shop," Tori explained plainly. "Singles are sold at individual pricing based on rarity and usability. Boosters are also available as well as miscellaneous accessories. By the way, they also have a lot of tabletop games on the side and a sandwich drawing."

"By the way, singles and card packs aren't bought with money. This shop uses Duel Points. Duel Points are accumulated when you attend classes and play duels. There are some shops in the city that accepts duel points too! In other words, the harder you work, the more you're rewarded. You can even request them to order in a particular single. Just be mindful of how expensive it'll cost you in your duel points. And moving on!"

A short walk later, the students were led to a set of automatic doors and opened and led them to what looked like the inside of a tall tower. Some might recall seeing something that looked like the Washington Monument from outside. This must have been it.

Light poured in from the glass ceiling high above them. The walls were lined with shelves filled with various books and texts. The stairs led up to multiple levels of walkways and landings, each level visibly equipped with desks, computer spaces, and displays.

"Welcome to the Millennium Library," Tori announced to the group, gesturing to the overwhelming display around them. "Our school pulls no limits on acquiring records and references on both duel academia and general studies. We also have a large inventory of novels and general literature for recreational use of course. More and better books become available to higher level students and the best references are available to the highest level. Be mindful of late fees and be mindful of personal noise. The librarian is a bit of a-"

SHHHHH!

Tori jolted as a tall old-man with a silver bear reaching his knees shushed her. His wizened face and furious brow was like something from a horror movie.

"Okay. Let's move on the the next place..."

Tori, demoted to a hushed whisper, carefully tip-toed towards the door. A little befuddled, some members of the group did the same.

~~~
"And that's the main academic building!" Tori announced, restored to her original bouncy self once they all got outside. "There are other facilities and locations related to your education, but you'll learn them as you go. Next we'll get to see Dueling Dome Slifer, one of three available dueling domes on campus. Before we go, does anybody have any questions about the main building?"
Yuriko in seriousness didn't really have anything to say to Tori unlike her friends. She just happily listened to everyone's questions along with the other people in the crowd. Before the tour began, Yuriko reacted just like the students when they were shown around the buildings on campus. Perhaps to the point that she may have overreacted to some things, often yelling the same time as the students only to stop once everyone was quiet.
However when they were at the store and ran into the old man. Yuriko's interests peaked and she wanted to see the Old Man, unfortunately the tour continued and Yuriko was forced to follow everyone in the crowd as they got to the main academic building.
Yuriko looked up at the building, still not having any questions in mind...
Yet.
Shiki politely shook her head when Tori asked if there were more questions. The tour in itself had been engaging, but Shiki kept her remarks to herself mostly because she didn't like drawing attention to herself and her runes said it was fine to discover things on her own.
While she was quiet though, someone behind her was talking, albeit not to Tori.
"Oh, so all I'll have to do is let them teach me. Then, I'll have the skill equipped to beat anyone because of my capable brain, then I can do cool duels in the open grounds, gaining everyone's admiration, even those of my obnoxious sisters...it's a perfect plan! Ha ha ha!"
If Shiki observed, there was a girl behind her holding a stuffed teddy bear, lifting it close to her and talking to it as if she was confiding in it.
"..."
The girl would look up to see Shiki staring at her.
"..."
"AAH!! WHY ARE YOU STARING ME DOWN LIKE THAT!?" the girl yelped in surprise.
The girl would then realize she had yelled a little too loudly and covered her mouth.
"Ack...I'm in trouble."
Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Empty
PostSubject: Re: Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus?   Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Icon_minitime1Tue Mar 12, 2019 10:23 pm
"Looks like we got an interesting bunch this year," Tori snickered excitedly. "Well then, let's get this show on the road! Next stop, Duel Dome Slifer!"
The walk to the duel dome took a few minutes but the general distance from the main school building wasn't too far. The area surrounding the dome was paved over with granite tile flooring. The dome from the outside looks pretty much what the name implies, a large dome roughly the the size of a house. It was made of some silver-metallic material with scarlet red accents, marking it as the Slifer Dome. From here the group can also see similar domes with yellow and blue accents respectively placed in a triangular position from one another. In the center was a marble fountain, shooting water upwards idly.
The Slifer Dome's entrance was a pair of metallic sliding doors. Next to it was some sort of terminal.
"The Duel Domes are the most popular location to have both official and practice duels," Tori started her explanation. You can use the terminal next to the entrance to schedule a match. You can also do practice duels against the COM. Each duel dome is equipped with a managerial AI that can perform as a dueling partner. Each one has individual levels of difficulty. Obelisk is the toughest while Slifer has what is considered the weakest AI. No offense Red!"
"None taken Miss Gaidoku."
A computerized voice with the aura of young lady secretary responded back. The voice came from the Terminal.
"Red is the automated judge for all duels in Duel Dome Slifer. She won't overlook any misconduct, so behave yourself. That said, don't hold back if you challenge her to a practice match!" Tori took out some sort of electronic device and held it up to the monitor. A beep rang out and the metallic doors slid open. "Let's take a look inside everyone."
Tori walked in first and the rest of the group followed quickly after. What greeted them was a little shocking.
Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Latest?cb=20161019083442
GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
The Five-Headed Dragon let out a discord of roars from it multiple heads. It stood on the other side of a raised platform. It faced down someone whose back was turned to the tour group that just walked into the match. In front of him were a hopelessly outmatched pair, Shining Angel and Fairy Archer.
"Ha Ha Ha! Next turn, you're finished and all your duel points are mine!" the owner of the Five-Head Dragon jeered. He was an athletically built young man with spike up hair and a strong chin. He taunted on, but his opponent, a green-haired boy wearing a white hat remained calm.
The hatted boy fished something out of his pocket, a cherry lolipop, popped it into his mouth nonchalantly.
"Remember your end of the deal if you lose, mate," the boy said with the stick hanging out of his mouth.
"Eeeeh?? You're down to your last leg and I have full points! And you're talking about me losing?? Your weak monsters have nothing on my dragon!"
"You might these monsters you called weak and useless pack a better punch than you'll ever know," the green-haired boy said. He tipped his hat and drew a card. "And when the chips are down, the hero always makes it through! With two LIGHT attribute monsters, I can summon the one and only Guardian of Order!"
Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? 26799_200w
From a flash of light above, a warrior in shining armor descended, swooping towards the massive dragon like a meteor.
"Are you blind?? That thing doesn't have enough points to take on my beast!"
"Course not," the green-haired boy said, tipping his hate over his eyes. "But he's not alone. He's got good friends to back him up! I use the special ability of a card in my hand! Honest!"
"Nani??"
The boy discarded a card from his hand and Guardian of Order sprouted a pair of shining wings! Its ATK skyrocketed to 7500 and with a blazing punch, it demolished the giant dragon in one blow.
"There's more!" the hatted boy shouted. "Now's payback for the little guys you dared to call weaklings! Attack directly!"
His two monsters rushed forward and charged at the his opponent with a loud cry. The athletic student cried out fearfully as his Life Points dropped to 0.
The victor flicked the rim of his hat and snapped his fingers at his opponent. "Goodnight."
Another kid ran up to him, this one shorter and scrawnier, with an amazed look in his eyes.
"You really did it!" he exclaimed.
"Not me," the boy stated, taking out the deck he was using and raising it to the kid. "It was your cards that won it, and your favorite monster that took down that dragon. All you had to do was believe in your deck. Never let a guy let that step over ya. Remember that."
The kid took back the deck and stared at them with uncertainty, but firmly nodded. "Yes Boss!"
It was then that Tori stepped up, grinning at the hatted boy. "Well aren't you popular, Tohru Bashido."
The student turned around as if only now noticing the group and gave and cool smile to everyone.
Torumi Bashido:
"Bonjour," he said tipping up his hat. "Welcome to Neo Duel Academy. You must be a batch of the First Years. If there's anything you need help with, come to me."
"This wannabe shounen jump protagonist is Bashido, Torumi, nicknamed 'the Boss'. He's an upperclassman in the same year as I am, but he gets around so much, he knows just about everyone by first name. This wasn't exactly planned, but you all may as well be introduced to this guy eventually. In summary, do your best not to end up like this hopeless guy here who keeps running into trouble like a speeding bus."
"Oi oi, I'm right here," Torumi said with the corner of his mouth twitching. "If you got something to say about my style, do it with your deck."
"Maybe if you're not too distracted saving lost puppies in the rain or whatever" Tori said playfully before walking away. "That's it for the Duel Domes. Now for everyone's favorite topic, lunch!"
~~~~

The Hungry Burger Hall was a simple facility. Just as Tori stated, it was set up buffet style with self-serve sections with a ranged variety of dishes, mostly things easily made in bulk. There was even a burger station where cooks worked diligently over a hot grill, serving up fresh patties to be built however the student wants along with crisp fries. The salad bar had fresh ingredients and a variety of dressing. Fresh small cakes and cookies were brought out to a desert corner.

Truly but surely, this was the deadliest trap known to Duel Monsters.

Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Empty
PostSubject: Re: Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus?   Student Orientation! A Tour Guide of Campus? Icon_minitime1Sat Mar 16, 2019 2:43 pm

Yuriko was focused on the tour, letting nothing get in her way as she was shown around the campus grounds, that is, until a girl with a teddy bear suddenly shouted, which surprised Yuriko, to the fact that she became interested in the girl as well as she looked at her as well like Shiki.

"..."

She remained quiet, until she suddenly spoke again. "Hi." Yuriko introduced herself, but the tour continued into one of the domes and Yuriko followed Tori into it where she watched a duel take place in silence.

When it was finished, one of the men duelling revealed himself and began to talk with Tori as Yuriko gasped in surprise. "Woah." She muttered, but before she could say anything else...

The tour ended, and it was time for lunch.

Once Yuriko got to the burger hall, she took a patty and sat down at one of the empty tables as she began to eat the burger. Thinking about the tour that just happened. "That tour was awesome. I can't wait to get started here." She excitingly thought to herself as she munched into her burger.

"Pretty swanky, don't you think? It's crazy how much stuff there is over here, and all for us!" Murasaki grinned as she chimed up, addressing the girl with a bear. She parked her own burger on top of a walnut salad and waved over at Yuriko, motioning for her to join up. "So, what's your whole deal? You were freaking out earlier."

Yuriko would feel a soft tug at her sleeve. If she looked behind her, Shiki was there holding onto her student handbook and staring at her blankly.

"Yuriko-chan," she said. "My cards said that I should eat lunch with those I crossed paths with today. That means you and the others. Join me?"

Fortunately, Murasaki was already waving at Yuriko, so that would make inviting everyone a lot easier. She seemed to be with the girl from earlier who was talking to herself and then yelled.

Speaking of which, Akiho had easily forgotten her embarrassment as the tour progressed. She got to see a battle in action, and despite herself she had been hopping up and down in both excitement and in order to get a better look.

Aghhh, that's so cool! HE's so cool! I bet he could take my sisters down in seconds! Shinsha thinks she's such hot stuff, but I bet she'd just fall over to this guy!

The idea of her sister kneeling down in defeat and looking devastated was enough to make grin widely. The idea took to her liking so much that she totally missed Muraski sneaking up behind her and talking.

"HUWAAH! Why is everyone sneaking up on me!??" she yelled as she jumped away from the girl. Clutching tight to her teddy bear, she pouted as Murasaki mentioned her freaking out. Her eyes shifted from side to side. "Freak out? What do you mean freak out? I didn't freak out. I was totally fine earlier. You must be mistaken, is all."

Why's this girl even talking to me anyways? Akiha thought to herself.

She was trying to inch away, but as she did, a crack in the pavement bit at her heel, and caused her to fall backwards.

"AGAH!!" she yelled as she hit the floor. Her teddy bear flew out of her hand and would fall in front of the dark-haired boy from earlier.

Otohiko was satisfied with the tour and followed his peers towards the cafeteria. He was sure this was going to be a good place for Yoru to study in the future.

He stood in line with everyone else and had gotten him a simple chicken and caesar salad to eat. Though it looked like the main staple of this meal would be burgers, which he realized made sense seeing what the dining facility named. Otohiko didn't really know what to do with it, he had never eaten one before. It wasn't because his family looked down on them or anything, he just preferred to eat the food prepared by the staff or himself. He had seen his sister eat a few after school before, so he decided to wing it and try to craft the same type of burger she liked.

Otohiko felt like his eardrum had just been blown out by the girl's yelling. He realized it was the girl who had yelled out during the tour as well. He knew he probably shouldn't interject in conversations, but he could tell the girl was easily rattled at Murasaki's words.

"Excuse my interruption," He said. "But I'm sure she was just worried about you. You seem to have a tendency to yell when you are surprised, I believe this is the second time today."

As Yuriko continued to eat by herself, was she interrupted by the arrival of Shiki, who wanted to eat with her, as her cards said so. "Oh Shiki, sure we can eat to---But before she can finish it seems as though Murasaki would want to eat with the girls as well.

Along with the girl with the teddy, who appeared to be talking to a boy.

"Oh, let's eat together with Murasaki and the girl from the tour. You know the one with the teddy who keeps yelling very loudly?" Yuriko beckoned Shiki into joining the three as she grabbed her things and walked towards the trio to join them at lunch.

"Hi again Murasaki." She greeted her new friend before turning towards the girl and boy.

"Uhh..." Yuriko isn't sure if she had met the two before.

Yato followed the tour silently the whole way. He was extremely enamored by the setup. Neo Duel Academy was always very hush about their facilities and methods. Now seeing it firsthand amazed him. Everything was so big and fantastical! Many of the best pro-duelists in the word came from here and he can believe that without a doubt.

If there was one thing that cast dread over his heart though, it was this.... the dining hall.

So many choices, so many things, all lined up before him. Yato was never concerned with things like calories before.... but he couldn't help but feel an impending doom on his back.

In the end he opted for a burger and rice set. He found a small table with nobody there and sat down. Clapping his hands together, he bowed his head giving thanks and and rose it to start digging in to find a bear staring at him. He yelped, flinching back in surprise.

....

"Excuse me..." Yato spoke up behind the loud girl, his voice barely above a whisper, holding up the teddy bear gingerly as if trying to hide behind the plush toy. "Uhm... I think this is yours."

Yuriko turned, thinking that Yato was referring to her as the owner of the teddy. "Oh, I don't own that bear." Maybe that girl did? Yuriko turned back towards the girl and stepped aside so she can let Yato through and so he can give the toy back to the girl.

"I think this toy belongs to you. Like what he said." Yuriko pointed to Yato before pointing at the teddy, wondering what the girl will do next.

Whatever will happen. Yuriko was already interested in everyone in this room!

As Akiha rubbed her bottom from being sore, Otohiko approached, trying to reassure her that Murasaki was just concerned. A bead of sweat nervously trailed down Akiha's temple as she got up.

"I-I'm fine!" she insisted. "And can you blame me for yelling when people are just standing behind me and staring or startling me by randomly saying stuff?"

As if on cue, Yato appeared behind Akiha and Yuriko to say that he had found a bear. Akiha once again shrieked and hugging the person who was next to her out of reflex.

"Agghhhh! I'm gonna have a heart attack today I swear!" she said as she clung to the person next to her. "Why is everyone creeping up behind me to tell me things??"

"..."

In some sort of realization, Akiha realized she was hugging another student. As she looked at who it was, she'd be met with long lilac hair, paper white skin, and dead blue eyes.

"BWAH!"

She'd flinch and retreat, now standing in the center of everyone. Her hands raised in defense. She was about to yell again, but managed to close her mouth this time to stop from yelling this time. As she looked at them warily, her mood changed. Her eyes squinted and she scowled.

"D-did Shinsha put you up to this? Is that why you're all try to make me jump?" she said. "Because if you're all a part of this, this really isn't funny! ...plus Shinsha doesn't keep to her promises to pay bribes for pranks, so sucks for you."

Shiki only tilted her head in response, to which Akiha shuddered. She pointed at her accusingly.

"Aghhh, see what I mean?" she said. "Why do you have to be so quiet? A-are you a ghost or something?"

She then looked at Yato, who, for good measure, also made her freeze a bit. The pale skin and dark hair kinda made him look like a ghost as well. The others looked normal enough, she guessed, but who knew?? It took this long for her to finally see the bear Yato was holding in her hands.

"CHOMYP!" she said in surprise as she took the bear from Yato. She quickly held it tight. "What are you doing with that creepy boy, huh?"

"He's been offering it to you since he got here," Shiki deadpanned, her voice low and raspy.

"I-I didn't ask you, y-you...hey, even when you talk you're scary."

"If the fates want me to be scary, that is what I am."

Akiha had to blink. She was having so much trouble processing all of this. She finally, and stiffly, turned to Yato. Her body tense and her mouth pouted.

"Th-thank you for saving Mr. Chompy," she murmured. And then, ducking her head, "A-and...I'm sorry I suspected all of you were trying to prank me."

"I'm sorry!"

Before Akiha could turn around, Yato bowed his head in apology and shoved the toy in her hands.

"I didn't mean to bother you! Sorry!" he apologized profusely. After returning the toy, he spun around and ran off. Well that could've gone better.

*clap**clap*

Everyone's attention was brought up by the sound of clapping. Tori stood by the entrance with a bright smile and rice stuck to the corner of her mouth. "Okay! I hope everyone's eaten their fill! There's just a little bit more to the tour so get ready. Now while we're getting there, I want you to consider one question; what's your favorite color?"

.......

The real question everyone was lamenting during the trip was "Are we there yet!?"

It was no exaggeration, the first-year dorms were the farthest from the main building compared to everything else. The route was certainly scenic, surrounded with lush trees and artistic sculptures (likely placed as markers to measure how far or close you are to the dorms and main building), but no amount of forestation could make the trek seem quicker.

When they got there, it was as promised, a simple high-rise complex with a central area on each floor for inter-mingling. The bottom floor seemed to have a public laundry room with vending machines as well as a computer room with copy machines and printing equipment. When they got to the central area of the first floor, waiting for them for a pair of assistants standing behind a table and in front of a bunch of boxes.

Tori stood in front of the group and pulled out a red device from her pocket. It was the same one she used to open the duel dome.

"Say hello to your best friend for the next four years," she said with a smile. "This is your D.D.D - Duel Disc Device."

D/D/D:

"Not only does it act as your student ID, it's also a video and call phone, a deckbox, and a scientific graphing calculator with regularly updated mathematics formulas. You can also download apps and other things. It comes in whatever color you want and you can customize the settings from the sounds to the displays."

Tori raised her left arm and displayed the gauntlet-like device. She placed the D.D.D on it and display it while moving her arm around.

"This arm device acts as your main storage place for your D.D.D. On top of that..."

She swiped across the screen and tapped the display. in seconds a board-like thing extended from the device, lighting up with bright sounds.

"With this, you can have duels anywhere, anytime. The ultra-compact hologram technology creates the same quality as what you saw during the practical exams. Once registered, your D.D.D will respond to your specific fingerprints. Now be careful with your D.D.D. It's very expensive and very important piece of technology. If yours get lost, broken, and corrupted in some way, replacing it will cost you a fine so bad, your grandkids will be in debt! Now without further delay~"

Tori stepped aside and directed everyone towards the assistants the duel discs. Everyone became immediately excited, lining up and naming their preferred colors as the assistants helped register their devices. As they got theirs, each student immediately started showing off how they looked and played around with the functions.

As everyone was getting their D.D.Ds, a man approached the group, tapping a walking cane with each step.

"Well well, is this the floor 3 group then?"

"Ah! Professor Amon," Tori smiled cheerfully. She turned to the group and gestured to the man before them. "Everyone, say hello to Prof. Namu Amon, your dorm master!"

"Charmed to meet you all," Prof. Amon with a curt nod and a salute with his cane.

Prof. Amon:

"I am Prof. Amon," he stated, resting both hands over his cane. "I teach topics in duel monsters history and architecture, as well as general cultural studies. I am also a first-year counselor and available for consultation during my office hours."

Some students looked off to the side with a disappointed look as the professor explains who he is and what he did. Professor Amon scratched the back of his head and laughed awkwardly.

"Now I know my subjects may not seem interesting, but there's a lot to learn from our history. It has a lot more to do with Duel Monsters than you may think. But, I'll save that for class. For now, how about a little quiz to rouse your interest, hm? Can anyone tell me why Ancient Egyptians wore eyepaints? Anyone? Anyone?"

To exemplify, Professor Amon pointed to the markings around his own eyes. They appeared to be simple eyeliner initially, but when drawing closer to the professor the faintest smell can be made out.

"Now then, I'm sure you're all eager to settle in," Professor Amon stated. "All of your rooms are on the third floor. Girls are in one wing while boys are in the other. If you go into your D.D.Ds, it will tell you your assigned room number. To get into your room, you just gotta hold your D.D.D to the electronic reader. You will each have one roommate for the year. Be sure to get along and bring any issues up to me. Welcome to Neo Duel Academy."

Yuriko watched as the girl blamed them all for taking her toy, thinking that they were pranking her. "Were not pranking you. We just wanted to return the toy." Yuriko pointed out. The girl did see the error of her ways however and apologised to the group soon after getting her toy back from Yato. Yuriko thought it was alright, since it was a mistake.

And she was scaring her.

"So, what's you---But before the group could get to know the girl and the person that she mentioned, Shinsha. Tori soon ended lunch so the tour can continue on to the dorms that everyone will be staying in.

But then she asked what everyone's favourite colour was.

"Purple." Yuriko answered out loud.
--
The group soon reached the dorms, where they were given their own D.D.D and met the Dorm Master, his appearance brought silence and awkwardness to the group but Yuriko thought he was alright. As she went to get her D.D.D that she wanted to be coloured purple.

"Ok, time to get a new purple phone that will help my deck." Yuriko thought as she walked forward to get her D.D.D

As Yato fled the scene, Shiki's eyes followed him before looking back at Akiha plainly.

"You scared him away," she deadpanned.

"Eh? I scared him? Have you looked at yourself in a mirror, lady?" Akiha rebutted.

Shiki blinked.

"No, I brush my teeth in the dark."

"..."

"That was my attempt at humor."

Everyone's attention, however, would be diverted as Tori rounded everyone up for the rest of the tour. Theytalked about D.D.D. and met Professor Amon. When he asked a question about Egyptian eyeliner, Shiki tossed her rune stones, but when they told her no, she frowned and sighed.

"I guess I don't have any participation today," she said.

It was now time for them to get organized and Shiki hoped for a cherry blossom pink D.D.D. if it happened. Meanwhile, Akiha for once had been quiet, looking warily around her.

That scary girl might sneak up on me again. I have to be careful! she thought. That said, I hope I get a green D.D.D. I can't get blue or red thanks to Shinsha and the others.

"I guess not." He replied. He thought that the girl should probably try to be less jumpy, but what could you do?

And just like that, Akiha yelled again, twice. Otohiko's ears didn't feel very good, but there was no sense in bringing it up. He felt like Akiha wasn't going to respond well to that.

Otohiko smiled softly as the boy ran off. Poor guy was probably shy, maybe they could all be friends later? Or was that too presumptuous of him?

He followed the others and nodded along to the explanations of Tori and Prof. Amon. Everything seemed to be in order, he was excited for what was to come. He wondered who would his roommate be or what colour his D.D.D was? Though, he didn't actually care all that much. But he wouldn't mind his D.D.D to be a light blue colour...
